Will aluminum stakes kill plants?

I planted peppers in my garden a staked them with wood stakes when were 14" high. When they grew higher, I added taller stakes. Two of them I staked with aluminum stakes the others with wood. The two wilted about 8 days later, the other did not. I water them all the same. Did the aluminum kill them. Thanks for your help
