Lawyer in a nutshell?

How would you describe a lawyer's proffesion sort of succinctly?Like arguing or what?Also, if you have never had any experience in the law except for Judge Judy and murder mysteries on TV, how do you know that you are interested in Law, so do you like philosophy or politics or reading or whatever?What maeks a good lawyer, someone who is good at arguing and thinking outside the box or anything?
